Sheryl Lee Ralph’sBarbara Howardis one of the cornerstones of ABC’s hit sitcomAbbott Elementary.
However, the veteran actor almost haunted the set of a different sitcom entirely.
The near-miss happened when Ralph was starring on theNina DobrevsitcomFam, which was cancelled after a single season.

Instead, Ralph opted to star in an ABC pilot,Harlem’s Kitchen, withDelroy Lindo.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic shut down Hollywood the day before they were to shoot.
Says Ralph, “Oh my gosh, I didnt play it right.

I made the wrong choice.
Its lipstick and lashes under the bridge now, girl.
Somebody else has that role somebody whos very talented and perfectly cast.”
Who Is Barbara Howard?
A kindergarten teacher with decades of experience, Barbara Howard is a legend at Willard R. Abbott Elementary School.
Although deeply religious and decidedly old-school, Barbara is on friendly terms with all of her co-workers.
Her fellow teacher, Janine Teagues (Brunson), sees Barbara as a surrogate mother figure.
Abbott Elementaryhas been a hit with critics and viewers since its premiere in late 2021.
