On Monday we learned that the sequels debut estimate ($161.1 million) had been abittoo high.
In terms of Thanksgiving grosses,Catching Fireis now the undisputed champion for both the three-day and five-day period.
The holiday grosses forCatching Firewere expected to break records, but that was not the case forFrozen.
But that is just what happened.
The previous record was $57.3 million/$80.1 million, set byToy Story 2in 1999.
Aside from the weeks two new record-breakers, box office grosses were on the thin side this Thanksgiving.
This years counter-programmers were far less successful.
Open Road was hoping to hit $15 million in five days withHomefront.
That is just a bit higher than StathamsParkerrealized… in January.
Compared toHomefront, Black Nativitylooked a bit more robust - but only because it opened in fewer locations.
More impressive than either of those new releases, however, was the expansion ofThe Book Thief.
After playing in limited engagements for almost two weeks, the drama did surprisingly well in wider release.
The box office will serve up its traditional Thanksgiving leftovers next weekend.
