But she found her path, and still marked her territory.
But truly, has it been enough?
Now, it’s time to give the icon the flowers she deserves.
OnAmerican Idol, that moniker began with Tamyra Gray.
Her elimination sent shockwaves through the screen.
She shouldn’t have gone. How can you let a great singer like that leave a competition?Wrong."
But this was not the end of her career.
As a songwriter, she earned a credit onFantasia’s Season 3 coronation song, “I Believe.”
First, it was a limited run as a replacement in the short-livedBombay Dreams.
She then took on the iconic role of Mimi Marquez inRent.
Years later, she took on some regional roles, but the well dried out.
It helped her return to Broadway in the revival ofOnce on This Islandand the Hollywood Bowl’sInto the Woods.
So, Tamyra Gray built up a resume, so what?
It should have been grander.
Perhaps Tamyra Gray was ahead of her time.
Maybe Tamyra Gray wasn’t the right winner to kick off theAmerican Idolphenomenon.
Timing is everything, and unfortunately, it wasn’t the right time for Tamyra Gray.
I’m still crossing my fingers for thatall stars redemption season.
It’s over for everyone ifRyan Seacrestever announces Tamyra Gray’s name on that Hollywood stage again.
