Yes, we’re talking about when he uses the Palantir inThe Return of the King.

So looking into the Palantir is actually opening a door for Sauron to look back.

Fortunately, as Pippin tells Gandalf, he didn’t reveal anything.

Imagine Sauron’s confusion at getting a surprise peek intothatmind.

In the movies, the context is a little different, though.

Still, if Aragorn is involved, that makes attacking Gondor even more important.

Aragorn even contacts him again via the Palantir to draw his attentionbefore the Battle of the Black Gate.

So it’s thanks to Pippin that the Dark Lord’s attention is focused away from his own backyard.

With Pippin, there’s no danger, because he knows nothing.

Sauron’s fatal error is that he projects his own desire for power onto others.
