This involves players of varying levels of shrewdness at different levels of the mafia hierarchy and society in general.
Roberto evicted a woman who knows Vito’s wife, who gets her husband to talk to this landlord.
Then he asks around about who Vito is and subsequently pays him a visit.
The poor man is so scared that he makes a fool out of himself.
It’s no surprise that Michael didn’t believe his accusation, given how wildly Vincent argued his case.
And after all that, he then asks his Uncle Michael for a job.
When Tom Hagen pays the old man a visit, Woltz eventually loses his temper and kicks Hagen out.
Before he does, though, he tells Tom that “I ain’t no band leader!”
Not for long, though.
But the fact that Woltz gives in so quickly raises the question, What was this guy’s plan?
Did he have any of his own gangsters or bodyguards he planned to use?

Nor has the undertaker invited him over for coffee, or done much socializing with him.
To be in the don’s favor, one must be a friend.
Sonny even threatens to kill him if the guy does something like that again.

And what does he do?
He assaults Connie again, which technically was part of a plot to assassinate Sonny.
But Carlo vastly underestimates the family on this point.

Furthermore, Carlo bet on Barzini beating the Corleones.
Who knew the guy with the scariest reputation would be among the funniest characters in the film?
As kind as Vito is about this, Luca makes a much worse mistake soon after.

Vito himself reprimanded Sonny for this after the meeting.
Maybe he should blame himself instead.

There’s conspicuous, and there’s inconspicuous.

When Michael asks him where he’s going, Fabrizio just runs away.

A more natural response might have been, well, any other one.
He could have said he had to use the bathroom, needed a snack, whatever.

He also doesn’t seem to understand the concept of putting the family above everyone else.
Michael even warns him at the end ofThe Godfatherto never take sides against the family again.
Even Fredo’s wife doesn’t respect him, and he’s eventually killed for his easily avoidable mistakes.
