When it comes to classic films, there are few pictures that have accumulated as muchiconographyasJaws.

Indeed, the picture would be nothing without the famously problematic Bruce or the cramped, doomed fishing boat.

However, these unforgettable symbols ofJaws, sadly, did not stand the test of time.

This makes it even more devastating that no effort was put into preserving the beast.

The Orca Was Intentionally Destroyed

Quints vessel, the Orca, is such an interesting set.

On the one hand, its a claustrophobic battleground, especially for Brody (Roy Scheider).

Unlike the sharks,the set piece was not only preserved but put on display onUniversals famous backlot.

Famous for its larger-than-life attractions, Universal added aJawssequence to the tour in the wake of the films success.

The director said he made frequent trips to see the Orca.

Youre gonna need a bigger shelf.

[I] went back for another journey back in time, down memory lane.

The boat was gone, and I called up the head of the backlot.

And I said, What happened to the Orca?

Indeed,the Orca had been destroyed rather unceremoniously and without Spielbergs knowledge.

Ironically, the Universal Backlot also paved the way for saving one of the films long-lost symbols.

Jaws

It was sculpted for a photo opportunity atUniversal Studios Hollywood.

The model was in bad shape, having deteriorated in the California sun.

Special effects artistGreg Nicoterotook on the task of restoring Bruce to ready him for the museums opening.
