Earlier this season, the John and Bailey romance appeared to be in jeopardy.
Unfortunately,The Rookielooks to be solving this issue by ignoring it completely, which is highly problematic.
Malvado gives Bailey his untraceable cellphone number, which Bailey keeps and does not inform Nolan about.

Later in Episode 5, “Till Death,” Jason finally resurfaces, taking Bailey captive.
Bailey manages to text Malvado about Jason’s whereabouts with a cellphone she was using to contact Malvado.
At the end of the episode,Nolan discovers the phone and Bailey’s message to Malvado.

Bailey makes a good point since Jason terrorized her for years and intended to kidnap and murder her.
Bailey’s actions exist in a morally gray area.
Jason was a degenerate criminal and drug dealer who sought to torture and murder his ex-wife.
However, the series resolvesthe rift between Nolan and Baileyin the most haphazard fashion possible.
Is Chenford getting back together as the city plunges into “purge” territory?
Nolan and Bailey forgiving one another is great, butwhat about Bailey’s communications with Malvado?!

For the most part,Nolan and Bailey’s conversationignores the Malvado situation.
Bailey calls her text to Malvado a
“desperate move” because she was “scared.”
Her fears are certainly understandable and warranted, but they do not absolve her of the act.
Nolan apologizes, and Bailey claims they will fix this together, and that’s it.
They never mention Malvado again, northe evidence Bailey destroyed and threw away.
The resolution for the couple does not adequately address Bailey’s legally sketchy actions.
Keep in mind, Malvado not only killed Jason but his accomplice Drew.
Although Drew was not innocent, she was likely another victim who was manipulated and deceived by Jason.
John and Bailey’s failure to properly address Bailey’s action will likely come back to bite them later.
What if Malvado returns?
If Monica learns about Bailey’s involvement with Malvado, Bailey’s mistake would certainly be exposed.
