The age-old story follows Persephone, a deity who brings Earth its spring.
But for all its accomplishments,The Goddess of Springdid have many shortcomings.
Its a fascinating effort indeed.

The colors are vibrant and balance well with the vintage animation style.
Her facial design is a predecessor to characters likeCinderellaandPinocchiosBlue Fairy.
The short also sets up many ofSnow Whites tropes.

AsSmithsonian Magazinepoints out,her personality manifests through actions that are incredibly similar to Snow White’s.
With her design, the animators set several standards that remain in place today.
From the monochrome streets of the big city to the valleys of Scotland.

Lead animatorsHam LuskeandLes Clarkwere in charge of animating Persephone.
Luskes wife,Frankie, modeled the character’s actions to give the artists a point of reference.
Indeed, watching the short today, the characters movements are too cartoonish even for a cartoon.

But the project wasnt a loss by any means.
Additionally,the animators had proven their efforts to be close enough to impress the boss!
AsD23.com explains, Ham Luske was the first animator assigned toSnow Whiteby Walt Disney.

A letter from Disney proclaimed, From now on, Ham Luske is definitely assigned toSnow White.
Prior toSnow White, the only other full-length animated feature film was a1926 picture calledThe Adventures of Prince Achmed.
