BeforeScream 7, there was another trilogy involving Kevin Williamson that went off the rails.
Repeating what happened in the first two Scream films, the fourth movie again has two killers.
The only holdup from greenlighting a new trilogy was the Weinstein brothers and Dimension films.

They wanted to see how a new Scream film performed first.
That would beScream 4’s downfall because it bombed at the box office.
In 2000,Scream 3made $89 million in the U.S. alone.

Eleven years later,Scream 4was a dud,making just $38 million.
Horror was changing and Ghostface was getting left behind.
Both the original star and writer are returning for the seventh installment.

Scream 5andScream 6never happened with Craven, but Kevin Williamson had ideas.
She then goes to college, only for the murders to begin again with a new Ghostface.
So, it was killer meets killer.
And Sidney was a professor at that school.
Alas, neither of those ideas were ever made.
So, why didn’t it?
Kruger changed theScream 4ending and had Jill die.
The idea forScream 5was killed even beforeScream 4’s commercial failure.
Instead, Dimension focused on a TV series with MTV.
