“You treated a symptom,” BJ says sadly, “the disease goes merrily on.”
He’d have gotten Hawkeye a court-martial or worse.
The show has aged better than the movie, but by how much?
All of these small differences add dimension and some stakes to the repeated scenario.
Witnesses who know Hawkeye did this before aren’t there to point it out.
MASH is set in a mobile army hospital during the Korean War, following the lives of the doctors and nurses who must balance the grim realities of war with moments of humor and camaraderie. And the characters who are there are less willing to go along with his radical ideas.
(They’re just, thankfully, not total snitches like Frank would be.)
