Columbia Pictures in Talks with Gary Ross to Direct VENOM

We don’t need a Venom movie. Underneath his proto-“Spawn” design, he’s a simple and boring character. But fanboys love the drooling doofus so Columbia has been hard at work on a spinoff. CL I’m impressed that there’s even a take on the character. Obviously, they’ll have Venom be an anti-hero because look at him. He’s got fangs and he’s drooling and he’s muscular so…yeah.

REPULSION Criterion Blu-ray Review

The history of Roman Polanski is almost as fascinating as his best films. He also directed one of the greatest feminist horror movies with Repulsion. If absolutely nothing else, the man is filled with interesting contradictions. CL My review is after the jump. Catherine Deneuve stars Carole Ledoux, a young French manicurist living in London. Helene has a boyfriend in Michael (Ian Hendry) who is also married. ![Repulsion movie image - slice....

Watch the Trailer for the HARRY POTTER Ultimate Editions's Stone and Chamber of Secrets

Of course, the big question is what will Warner Bros. do when the franchise is over. Could they eventually re-release all the ultimate editions in theaters? I think they will. CL Especially if there is new footage. And while Warner Bros. is releasing both DVD and Blu-ray editions, I’m just posting the Blu-ray info. Of course both editions have a TON of extras. ![HARRY POTTER Ultimate Editions slice (1).jpg](https://static1.colliderimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/image-base/Movies/H/Harry_Potter_Ultimate_Editions/slices/HARRY POTTER Ultimate Editions slice (1)....

Patrick Swayze Passes Away from Pancreatic Cancer at the Age of 57

Click through for more regarding Swayze’s passing. Of course, Swayze is best remembered for his iconic role in 1987’s “Dirty Dancing”. As for myself, I never felt much of a connection towards Swayze one way or the other. CL I’ll probably choose the latter.

Summer 2009 Box Office Wrap-Up

Numbers don’t lie, right? The truth is that box-office attendance actually fell off by 2% between 2008 and 2009. Basically it was a record-breaking summer that felt more like a really successful spring. CL And now for the numbers themselves. It’s what we’ve got to work with. It depends on the film. Both studios are happy, sure. Number two was claimed by Paramount thanks mostly to “Transformers”. Disney’s “The Proposal”, on the other hand is an undeniable winner....

Spider-Man 5 and Spider-Man 6 Are a Go! James Vanderbilt Writing Next Two Spidey Films!

So what does that mean for the future of the franchise and director Sam Raimi’s involvement? What that means is…a lot of cooks have been preparing this meal. Vanderbilt has been hired to pen the fifth and sixth movies, which have an interconnected storyline. CL Of course with the movies so far away from being shot, that plan could be thrown out. Maybe “Spider-Man 4” makes a billion dollars and everyone takes bubble baths filled with hundred dollar bills....

Exclusive: Writer/Director Marcus Dunstan and Co-Writer Patrick Melton Interview

PATRICK: well I was ignored as a child and he was over stimulated. Actually we had some pretty funny stories about that. When [Marcus] was a kid. Friday Box Office? G-FORCE and THE UGLY TRUTH Top POTTER

At this time last year the box office was still being dominated by one blockbuster release - something to do with Batman, if I recall. The summer of 2009 has had nothing like the single-title excitement of “The Dark Knight”, however, and already in the last weekend of July the studios are throwing multiple, genre-specific titles at the screen to see what sticks. Disney has the CGI hamster action of “G-Force” out in both Digital 3D and standard versions and - if Friday’s opening day numbers are any indication - “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” may have a hard time holding on to the top spot against the cunning rodents....

WATCHMEN Director's Cut Blu-ray Review

Watchmen is one of the best films of 2009. It’s challenging, subversive, fascinating. Watchmen, the comic book was a revelation in its time. CL It took a part of our culture (superheroes through comic books) and perfectly dissected it. And yet Rorschach is the perfect distillation of elements that go into The Punisher and Batman. Dr. Manhattan is the god figure/ the superpowered being (like Superman, etc. ![billy_crudup_as_jon_osterman__watchmen_movie_image 6.jpg](https://static1.colliderimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/image-base/Movies/W/Watchmen/billy_crudup_as_jon_osterman__watchmen_movie_image 6.jpg)...

Weekend Box Office - $79 Million Weekend is a Series Best for HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE

Sadly, it was not to be. I hate to invoke “The Dark Knight” here, but if the cape fits… Which brings us to “Bruno”. CL In all honesty, “Bruno” was lucky to score that highly. Not since “Watchmen” has so much been made over a cinematic appendage. Next week we get back to the multiple-release weekends of late July. ![harry_potter_and_the_half-blood_prince_movie_image_michael_gambon_as_albus_dumbledore 2.jpg](https://static1.colliderimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/image-base/Movies/H/Harry_Potter_Half_Blood_Prince/harry_potter_and_the_half-blood_prince_movie_image_michael_gambon_as_albus_dumbledore 2.jpg)
