Collider:Youve circled this project for a while, having originally been considered to play Ellie.
How different did it all feel then?

KAITLYN DEVER: Totally.
Now the whole world knows about it.
Its gone outside the gaming community and into peoples homes, and thats a really cool thing to see.
Neil [Druckmann] created such a beautiful game.
I think the collaboration between Neil and Craig [Mazin] is really brilliant.
Theyve made something really special here, so its not a surprise to me.
DEVER: I cant really remember.
Season 2 finds beautiful ways to update what might very well be the best video game narrative ever told.
It takes me back to playing the video game.

Those intro guitar solos are very good.
Abby is one of the most controversial video game characters.
I know that and I dont personally know very much about video games in general.
Was that something you were aware of?
Was that something that Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann warned you about?
Did you know what you were stepping into, in that regard?

DEVER: Yeah, of course.
They didnt seem very concerned about any of that.
And it was nice that they had a lot of confidence in me taking on this role.

And I shot some pretty intense stuff on my first day, I have to say.
Ramsey also talks about the frustration and distance Ellie is experiencing when it comes to Joel.
DEVER: I dont know how the stunt team does it, honestly.

They choreographed this whole massive fence thing, and I did it.
I was underneath that fence.
From the moment that we meet Abby, we know that shes in pain and shes out for blood.
At the beginning of this season, it feels like shes definitely in that anger stage of grief.
Has she been through all the other stages now, in the five years since then?
DEVER: I think she is someone that holds a lot in, naturally.
I think she probably is one to deal with her emotions quietly.
I think that the way her sadness does come out is in a bit of harshness, I guess.
She can be pretty tough sometimes.
Maybe her sadness also comes out as a little bit mean too, I would say.
I think within the five years, of course, shes gone through all the stages.
Thats where all the sadness and rage and anger come from.
The Last of Usairs on HBO and is available to stream on Max.
