The band has had its fair share of musical ups and downs, so let’s go through them.
As a whole, it just feels like they’re going through the motions.

Anger.To be fair,thealbum’s production was marked by one of the band’s most difficult periods.
It has a very minimal, raw sound with sudden tone and tempo shifts.St.
After a while, this album does start to feel repetitive and much longer than it needs to be.

However, the highlight of the album is the grossly underappreciated “Until it Sleeps.”
“Hardwired” is a concise, angry opener reminiscent of “Battery.”

This leads into the decently layered but consistently heavy and creative “Atlas, Rise!”
has good moments and “Spit Out the Bone” is a pretty cool ending to an inconsistent album.
“The Memory Remains” slows things down, but not in a bad way.

“Devil’s Dance” has a good riff, though the vocals don’t really work.
It’s far from a perfect album, but parts ofReloadare still worth revisiting.
ThoseMotorheadcovers kick ass, too.

Unfortunately,Death Magneticloses steam in its second half (starting with and especially after “Cyanide”).
“Hit the Lights” introduced the public to a band in very promising fashion.
Hetfield’s high-pitched screams, the band’s furious speed,Dave Mustaine’s solosthey all waste no time.

That said, there’s no denying how much this album stands out in the heavy metal genre.
