…It does a great job of returning to a version of the status quo after the OTC.
Mark leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives. When a mysterious colleague appears outside of work, it begins a journey to discover the truth about their jobs.
…Irving’s outie is alive and well after thinking that he was fired from Lumon… ’s “death.”

Dylan meets his outie’s wife, Gretchen (Merritt Wever), for the first time.
Mark’s reintegration is such an interesting turn for this early on in the season…
It’s a strong episode thathighlightsSeverance’s ability to recontextualize certain scenes and episodes with major reveals.
Here, behind the scenes, Irving and Dylan get fired, andDylan struggles to find a jobwhile severed.
It’s another fascinating piece of information about the social dynamics of severing…
They drive to the severed cabin to prepare to ask Mark’s innie questions.

At the same time, Lumon prepares to make Irving disappear, and arranges for Burt to do it.
Instead, though,Burt takes Irving and Radar(canine actorDitto) to flee by train.
This reveal makes a lot of sense, andSeverancehas clearly been building up to it since the beginning.

Her hometown was destroyed by the Lumon factory, and ether addiction became a huge problem there.
Additionally, Dylan’s outie urges him not to retire and end his life, through a nice letter.
After Mark completes Cold Harbor, the rest of the episode is absolutely wild.

Then Helly traps Milchick, with eventual help from Dylan, so that Mark can go save Gemma.
“Chikhai Bardo” blends flashbacks of Mark and Gemma’s life together… And yet, this weirdness is exactly what is needed to create this unsettling atmosphere out in the woods.
Finally, the tension builds up in this episode until it is undeniable.
