Another year, another season ofBl- ah, that doesnt work.

Barely any TV shows get a season per year these days.

Its gone out of fashion; been out of it since some point around the mid-2010s.

Another… two years, another one season ofBlack Mirror?

Its not as catchy.

The main thing is, its been about two years since the last season. And that last season was rough.

This one is better.

Theres nothing here that can beconsidered worthy of all-time low statusbyBlack Mirrorstandards.

Season 7 plays it safe, and if anything, doesnt push most of its ideas far enough.

It is such an odd premise.

Aesthetically, Plaything also feels like an earlyBlack Mirrorepisode, owing to the grit and dirtiness on offer here.

Reality starts bending in unusual ways, and theres a sense of some real gas-lighting going on.

Thats made apparent fairly fast.

But at least this one goes somewhere.

If you might go with it, theres something to be gained from the episode as a whole.

It is frustrating in execution, but the stronger parts of Common People make it worthwhile in the end.

Into Infinity goes broader and almost into blockbuster-like territory, too, for better or worse, likeInto Darkness.

But theres enough good stuff here that it kind of works, in any event.

Its pretty entertaining, at least.

Itdoesnt over-explain things or fail to develop anything intriguing.
