Lead effects supervisorBart Mixonof Fantasy II makeup effects was pleased with the work onStephen King’s It.

IT Miniseries 1990

Mixon is no stranger to creature effects, previously designing forA Nightmare on Elm Street 2andFright Night Part 2.

He was the designer responsible for the look and sculpt of Pennywises makeup.

Mixon also created the initial model of the spider, which Wallace signed off on.

In the small town of Derry, a group of children known as the Losers' Club confronts an ancient, shape-shifting entity that takes the form of a clown named Pennywise. As adults, they must return to Derry to face their worst fears and stop the evil once and for all.

But according to Wallace’s interview, what showed up 12 weeks later was an entirely different beast.

To be clear,the spider-like creature is an impressive piece of work.

This led to some confusion among the actors who pictured a traditional arachnid for the conclusion.

Mixon felt that the animatronic’s full capabilities were not utilized on set or wholly appreciated.

Its mandibles, mouth, and eyes could all move via remote control.

The spider’s huge fangs dripped “poison” on command.
