Arnold Schwarzeneggers return to acting could have gone several ways.
A real banger would have been a meta-comedy about a former action star turned politician.
The options were borderline endless, however, he pickedThe Last Stand.

In a nutshell, its a certain punch in of ridiculousness that only makes the overall narrative better.
At that point, Schwarzeneggers Ray is forced to step up and defend his town.
Unlike some of his moreprominent roles in filmslikeTerminator,Total Recall, andPredator, Owens is far from untouchable.

So, it makes sense that once the bullets start flying, some innate superhuman reflexes dont kick in.
Rather, he dodges, ducks for cover, and fires his own shots more calculatedly.
Because of that weariness, hes a lot more grounded and, dare we say, relatable.
A standout moment in the film is the final showdown on the bridge.
But somehow,The Last Standtransforms this unlikely pairing into a strength into something that works.
Where Owens is calm and methodical, Dinkum is pure chaotic and over-the-top.
