COLLIDER: I think my favorite episode of the season so far is Flowers cult flashback episode.
What was it like to finally get to dive into that part of your backstory?
SHEILA CARRASCO: Oh, it was so enlightening.

But also because we get to see why Flower was so duped.
But it’s also not that crazy.
Meteorites come to Earth, so, hey, I think we got some answers.

Yeah, especially in the heyday of the Space Race and everything.
That absolutely makes sense.
CARRASCO: Oh, I hope so.

She’s a delight.
And so are all of our other amazing cholera ghost actors.
As an actor, I always love getting to do scenes with them.
Image via CBS
None of us get to do it that often, but it’s really nice.
And you know what?
I’ll do that with the cholera ghosts any damn day.

Especially the storyline with the Sasappis.
She’s trying so hard to wingman him into getting laid.
CARRASCO: It was just really natural for us.

It made me feel like, Oh, this is how I feel when I’m with my siblings.
It’s just easy.
It could be anything.

What if they’re frenemies?
What if he’s got a grudge against her?
It feels very sibling-ish.

I’m excited too.
I also love that since then, she’s gotten more and more confident, as well.
We’ve seen Flower catch Hetty and Trevor twice now.

What have you enjoyed about adding these new sides to Flower and her playing the counterbalance to that dynamic?
It was such a treat to get these extra dimensions this season, and layers, and convictions.
Okay, she doesnt really like when people are virgins.

[Laughs] She does not like being lied to.
This [recent] episode was one of my favorites to play.
It was a very well-done B-story, succinctly done.
If you reach…
CARRASCO: If you reach, I will teach.
Ive got to remind the Joes about that because you really brought it full circle.
So, if you don’t come for her, hey, live your life.
Can you talk a bit about the evolution of their relationship?
She’s such a wonderful, brilliant actress, and she’s also such a fierce, loving friend.
I hope we get to see more.
So we were like, Can we just just have a girls night sleepover?
We don’t have to talk about boys, or we can.
I was like, This is so rare!
We need it more often.
I love that, too.
Is there anything that surprised you about their relationship this season?
CARRASCO: Oh, that’s a great question.
There have been storylines, like the restaurant storyline, or maybe it was the “Ruffle Kerfuffle.”
Thats kind of cool, because you’re able to’t say that about a lot of people.
You certainly cant say it about me and my husband.
Were co-dependent as hell, were together all the time.
I want to spend every minute with my wife.
I love that you got to speak Spanish in the scene.
And, yeah, she knows Spanish, and so she does speak it sometimes.
Now, they get to watch the show because it’s available on Netflix in Chile.
It’s always awesome when I get to represent.
Just like my last name, Flower Susan Montero, that’s my abuela’s maiden name.
We’re the familia Carrasco-Montero.
This is a shining example of why that is.
You get so much more complexity to story when you have more points of view represented.
It’s such a small moment, but it adds so much depth to those characters.
CARRASCO: Yeah, for sure.
And comedy, too, because it should be funny.
I am such a playlist person.
I make music playlists for everything.
I’m curious, do you have a Flower playlist, and if so, what’s on it?
CARRASCO: Oh, great question again!
I really love Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez.
I really love Joan Baez.
I love her voice.
Gotta love Joni, too.
I love folk music a lot.
So, definitely, I think a lot of that for Flower.
I love The Zombies.
I think it’s such a vibe.
So, yeah, I love that music.
Then, obviously, me personally, I listen to a lot more kinds of stuff.
I feel like Flower would really want to go to Coachella.
CARRASCO: I think so.
I think she would show everybody how it’s done.
And she would be the queen of Burning Man, for sure.
I also loved Flowers line aboutPaw Patrolthis season.
I laugh every time I watch that episode.
What else do you think Flower spends her TV time on?
Because I think she watches modern-day basketball a lot, and the NBA.
CARRASCO: Yes, I have thought about it!
Oh, that’s a good question.
I don’t have as many thoughts on where she went to school.
I would love it if it were a very great school, and there’s a lot of those.
I feel like maybe someone had mentioned Cornell or something like that.
That’s such a good choice.
CARRASCO: She’s in it for the money, obviously.
[Laughs]
Will We Ever Meet Flower’s Family on ‘Ghosts’?
“She never really got to say goodbye.”
When are we going to see some of Fowers family come to the BNB?
I know she’s got brothers, and maybe she’s got young nephews and nieces, extended family.
CARRASCO: I’m a big family person.
I’m the youngest of four.
I have, like, 60 cousins in Chile and in the States.
What was it about that family that made her feel like she couldn’t go to them for help?
And it made us laugh so much.
So, not that that’s necessarily helpful to anyone, but it really makes me laugh.
I really love when the show does flashbacks.
I think there’s so much opportunity to tell so many fun stories that inform their present-day shenanigans.
What are some flashbacks that you would like to see in future seasons?
CARRASCO: I really want to see more of Flower in law school.
I just want to know more about Susan.
I want to wear those clothes, and I just want to see what she was studying.
I think that there’s really no limit to it.
That would be awesome for every single character.
Because we’ve heard tell of them, like Flat Maria.
That would be so cool to see in other flashbacks of like, Wait, who’s that?
Oh, yeah, thats that ghost that was here for 200 years.
I really like that.
CARRASCO: That is so fun.
We’re really all great character actors, and we can do so many different kinds of characters.
Now, I completely see why they don’t do that.
So, I appreciate that, but creatively, that would be so fun.
Youve been renewed for two more seasons, which is amazing.
I’m so excited.
What’s something on your Flower wish list for Seasons 5 and 6?
CARRASCO: What we’ve talked about.
Maybe he’s on acid, and she’s actually able to communicate with him.
CARRASCO: Actually, yeah.
She’s one of our greatest directors.
We get to work with her every year, and we’re so lucky.
So, I’m going to take classes and all of that.
I’m excited to learn more and shadow more.
CARRASCO: We would love that.
It’s not an easy job.
That’s one of the things I learned.
Lastly, we’re only a few episodes away now.
What can you say about the season finale?
I know it’s going to be jam-packed.
CARRASCO: Yes, that’s right.
It’s different and equally terrifying.
That is so exciting.
I cannot wait.
CARRASCO: I think so, too.
I also think she didn’t get to finish law school, so it’s never too late.
It’s never too late for anybody.
So, who knows?
The next episode ofGhostsairs this Thursday on CBS at 8:30 PM ET.
it’s possible for you to watch previous episodes on Paramount+ in North America and Netflix around the world.
