The series of novels belong to a subgenre of high fantasy known as “grimdark.”

The Netflix series started out strong, but has unfortunately taken a bit of a dive in recent years.

But the books, fortunately, stay consistent in quality.

While the finer details are obviously very different, it still maintains the same atmosphere and overall broad strokes.
