Movies are an inherently risky business.
No matter what, there is always the very real possibility that your film will underperform financially.
A lucky few become cult classics and endure as quaint and niche masterpieces of disruption.

Abramsrebooted theStar Trekcinematic universe with 2009’sStar Trek, which he followed withStar Trek Into Darkness.
Both were smash hits with audiences.
Its huge budget and its release during a pretty crowded summer meant that it failed to meet financial expectations.

The film is terrific, apulpy, stylish, and delectably dark character dramawith a stacked cast.
Sadly, such is the case forTurning Red, the studio’s biggest financial failure ever.
But did itdeserveto crash and burn commercially?

This one in particular, though, is pretty hard to hate.
On top of that, critics' reception was lukewarm.

WhySolo: A Star Wars Storyfailed doesn’t really matter as much as the fact that itshouldn’thave.

The casting is fantastic, the music and world-building are delightful, and the story is thoroughly entertaining.
Thankfully,The Suicide Squadis incredibly fun.
One genre that he hadn’t dipped his toes into before 2021, however, was the musical.
It’s a terrific film, in many ways an upgrade over the 1961 classic.

Sadly, though, “the people who did see it” are a tragically small group.
As such, a legacy sequel was always going to have pretty big shoes to fill.
But 2049’s financial failure wouldn’t be described as disappointing if the movie weren’t so incredible.
Gorgeous and awe-inspiring in every way, both aesthetic and narrative, it’sa modern sci-fi masterpiece.
As such,it’s frankly no surprise thatBabylonfailed.
If ever there has been a box office flop that should have been a huge hit, it’sBabylon.
